Marcos and Niloo shine at Commander’s Cup Golf Championship

The Commander’s Cup Golf Championship 2026 organised by the Sri Lanka Air Force concluded in grand style at the picturesque Eagles’ Golf Links and Courses, drawing leading defence and civilian golfers who competed across several divisions over the weekend at the scenic China Bay course.

Marcos Gomez Chicano produced a superb performance to capture the Commander’s Cup title in the Men’s segment. His controlled approach and confident putting proved decisive on the demanding layout. 

In the Women’s category, Niloo Jayathilake delivered a sparkling round to secure the title, demonstrating experience and composure throughout the championship in the most challenging golf course in the country.

Group Captain Prabath Wijekoon emerged as one of the top performers of the tournament with an exceptional all-round display. He claimed the Eagles’ Challenge Trophy, Men’s Winner title, and further underlined his dominance by winning the Six Hidden Holes Award and the Commander’s Island Green prize. Captain Thushara Jayawardena finished as runner-up in the same segment after a steady performance.

In the Men’s Gross division, Derrick Ponnambalam secured the winner’s position with a composed and technically sound round. Jade Jiggens delivered one of the most impressive performances of the event among the Women’s, winning the Gross title while claiming the Longest Drive Women’s award with powerful tee shots and confident play.

Manori Jayakody won the Nearest to the PIN award for Women, while Anthony Fernandopulle secured the Men’s equivalent. 

In the defence category, Prabath Wijekoon added another accolade with the Nearest to the Pin title. Squadron Leader Asela De Silva won Longest Drive – Defence Men’s, while Wing Commander K.A.P.S. Laksmi claimed Longest Drive – Defence Ladies. Major General (Retd.) Srinath Rajapakshe won the Longest Drive Men’s Open category.

The championship was sponsored by Dialog Enterprises for a record sixth year.
