Maliban Biscuits Champions of the 32nd Singer-MCA Super Premier League Cricket Tournament

Maliban Biscuits, on Thursday, in a thrilling final played under lights at the CCC, overcame Hayleys PLC by three wickets to emerge champions of the 32nd Singer–MCA Super Premier League 50-over knockout tournament.
Hayleys Group elected to bat first, and openers Nishan Madushka (40) and Ron Chandragupta (55) posted 97 runs before both fell to successive balls in the 20th over. Thereafter, twenty-plus scores by Ahan Wickremasinghe, Ramesh Mendis, Inuka Karannagoda, and Ravindu Fernando helped them reach a final score of 235. Dushan Vimukthi was the pick of the bowlers with 3/46.
Chasing a victory target of 236 under lights, Maliban Biscuits were three wickets down for 98 in the 19th over, but Dushan Vimukthi (37), Sahan Arachchige (24), and skipper Milinda Siriwardena (41) saw them reach the target with 23 balls to spare.
Dhananjaya Lakshan of Maliban Biscuits was named Man of the Final for his contribution of 41 runs and two wickets.
Citizens Development Business Finance PLC (CDB) emerged champions after the conclusion of the league stage of the tournament but lost the semi-final to Hayleys PLC.
In the league stage, Varuna Sahan of Maliban Biscuits captured 13 wickets to be crowned Best Bowler, while Minod Bhanuka of Hayleys Group was named Best Batsman for his aggregate of 253 runs. Nipun Dhananjaya of Citizens Development Business Finance PLC (CDB) was named Player of the Tournament for his aggregate of 242 runs and 10 wickets and received a cash award, a trophy, and a 40-inch ultra-slim LED TV from Singer.
