Major Plate competition Tamil Union sink further, lose to Panadura SC

Panadura SC dealt Tamil Union another painful blow when they won in the first innings of their Major Plate match concluded at Surrey Village Ground, Maggona on Sunday. Having gained a first innings lead of 101, Panadura SC batted Tamil Union out of the match by scoring 321 in their second innings, leaving them with an enormous target of 423. Tamil Union finished on 171-6, with Sri Lanka opening bat Oshada Fernando turning his arm over for career-best figures of 4/86 off 10 overs of leg-spin. Navod Paranavithana scored 43 off 28 balls (4 fours, 3 sixes) and Sachitha Jayathilake 57* off 34 balls (3 fours, 4 sixes) for Tamil Union.

In Panadura SC’s second innings, Vishva Chaturanga (57 off 64 balls, 9 fours), Kanchana de Livera (79 off 112 balls, 8 fours, 2 sixes), and Vishwa Lahiru (52 off 39 balls, 6 fours, 2 sixes) scored half-centuries apiece.

Kurunegala YCC did well to dismiss Nugegoda SWC for 282 and gain a first innings win at the Galle Cricket Stadium.

Nugegoda SWC resumed at 159-5 in reply to Kurunegala YCC’s 365, but despite a valiant century from Pathum Kumara (121* off 180 balls, 17 fours), the rest of the batting fell to the left-arm seam of Kasun Ekanayake (5/63). Kurunegala YCC in their second innings declared at 137-8, leaving Nugegoda SWC a target of 221 to chase. Nugegoda SWC finished 59-4.

Badureliya SC took first innings points off Chilaw Marians CC, leaving them at the bottom of the table in their match concluded at Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala.

Badureliya SC, starting the day at 227-5 in reply to Chilaw Marians CC’s 244, replied with 290, with Dilshan de Soysa making a top score of 112 off 218 balls (7 fours). In their second innings Chilaw Marians CC declared at 206-5, with Thanuka Dabare contributing 85 off 70 balls (1 four, 4 sixes). Badureliya SC, left with a target of 161, made a bold start, reaching 111 without loss.
