Nugegoda SWC and Kurunegala YCC will make a head start in the Major Plate commencing today, having carried forward the highest number of points from the Major Club 3-Day League group stage from the six teams competing.
Nugegoda SWC with 28.850 points meet Badureliya SC (7.790) at the Welagedara Stadium, while Kurunegala YCC (23.985) take on Panadura SC (14.590) at the Surrey Village Grounds, Maggona. The third match for the weekend is between Tamil Union (16.370) and Chilaw Marians CC (7.625) at the Galle Cricket Stadium.
Having failed badly in the group stages to qualify for the Super 8, Tamil Union will be looking to compensate for that performance by winning the Plate. They have the players to do so, it’s just that they have faltered at crucial moments of the game.
Nugegoda SWC comes up against a confident Badureliya SC, fresh from their upset innings win against Moors SC. It will be an evenly matched contest between Kurunegala YCC and Panadura SC.
What these six teams will want to avoid is finishing at the bottom of the standings at the completion of the Major Plate to avoid relegation to Tier B 3-Day. – [ST]
