Priyamal Perera, the former Josephian cricketer, scored only his seventh first-class hundred in 90 matches to help Police SC recover from a bad start and post a competitive first day total of 320-7 against table leaders Moors SC in their Major Club 3-day Super Eights match played at Pallekele Cricket Stadium yesterday.

Invited to bat first, Police SC lost their first four wickets for 50 in 10 overs with right-arm seamer Shiran Fernando picking up three of them. Perera then mounted a recovery first with skipper Ashen Bandara (60 off 94 balls, 6 fours) with whom he shared a sixth wicket stand of 114 and then with Supun Madushanka (65 off 96 balls, 5 fours, 2 sixes), a partnership of 127 for the seventh. Perera ended the day unconquered on 143 scored off 246 balls (16 fours). Fernando returned for another spell to capture one more wicket and finish with figures of 4/59.

Second placed Colts came up with a powerful batting performance against wooden-spoonist BRC at the NCC grounds. Put into bat first Colts were helped to their total of 325-5 through consistent contributions from Dinesh Chandimal (67 off 68 balls, 7 fours, 1 six), skipper Dhananjaya Lakshan (44), Angelo Mathews (88* off 157 balls, 8 fours) and Sukitha Manoj (44*). Left-arm seamer Yasiru Rodrigo was the most successful bowler for BRC capturing 4/94.

Opener Lahiru Udara followed his double century last weekend with another hundred (126 off 129 balls, 12 fours, 1 six) as he led an NCC assault on the Bloomfield bowlers at the R Premadasa Cricket Stadium. Winning the toss and batting first NCC ended the day strongly placed at 386-7. Udara shared in partnerships of 103 with Kamil Mishara (61 off 58 balls, 8 fours, 1 six) and 108 with Ahan Wickramasinghe (39). All-rounder Chamika Karunaratne gave a late boost to the innings compiling 61 off 81 balls (5 fours, 3 sixes).

CCC bowlers led by spinners Nishan Peiris (2/58) and Inuka Karannagoda (3/57) restricted Ace Capital CC to a first day total of 249-7 at the Colts grounds. Ace Capital CC could not put together a substantial partnership despite contributions of 51 (98 balls, 5 fours) from Pawantha Weerasinghe, 76 (162 balls, 6 fours, 2 sixes) from Ranesh Silva and 49 from Raveen de Silva. All four matches continue on their second day today.
