Dimantha Mahavithana
By Shamseer Jaleel
Dimantha Mahavithana carved his name in golden letters in Trinity College cricket history with a monumental unbeaten 300, the highest individual score ever recorded by a Trinity batsman in a single innings, which was achieved against the Prince of Wales outfit recently at the Asgiriya International Stadium.
This now stands as the all-time record for the Kandy school, surpassing all previous great performances.
Significantly, Mahavithana is also featured twice among Trinity’s highest scorers, having earlier registered an unbeaten 201 against St. Sebastian’s College in 2025. This makes him the only Trinity batsman to record both a double century and a triple century in school cricket, underlining his consistency and class.
Several other notable Trinity cricketers have also crossed the 200-run mark in a single inning for the Trinity Lions. Janith Warnakula scored 241 against Wesley College in 2024, while Sachith Pathirana made an unbeaten 228 against Katugastota Rahula in 2004.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella struck 212 against Mahinda College in 2012, and Ishan Ratnayake added 211 against Kingswood College in 2003. Further back, N.R. Marambe compiled an unbeaten 202 against the same opponents in 1969.
Adding to this elite list is the legendary Kumar Sangakkara, who scored 198 against S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia in 1996, narrowly missing out on a double century.
Among all these outstanding achievements, Mahavithana’s unbeaten 300 remains the pinnacle—a historic, record-breaking effort that redefines batting excellence at Trinity College.
