Havies skipper Abdullah Faiz held by an Air force player
Havelocks SC secured a dominant 40/22 victory over Sri Lanka Air Force SC at Havelock Park last weekend. The game which was closely fought out saw the Park Club having slight edge at 19/17 at the short breather.
Havelocks took an early lead, with Rifan Mohamed, Udara Lakshan, and Jayathu Rajarathne crossing the whitewash in the first half. Despite Air Force’s resistance, including tries from Manuka Perera, Pramod Pathmasanka, and Vimukthi Fernando, Havies held a narrow 19/17 lead at halftime.
The second half saw Havelocks shift into top gear, with Rajarathne scoring his second try, followed by Sandesh Jayawickrema and Charana Sendanayake adding to the tally. Samuel Maduwantha was in fine form with the boot, successfully converting five of the six tries.
Air Force SC managed a fourth try through Sandanu Mandiv, with Gayantha Iddamalgoda slotting a conversion, but it wasn’t enough to match the relentless pace of the Havies. Air Forces missed out on two scoring opportunities in the later half.
With this victory, Havelocks continue to push forward in the league, demonstrating their strength as a title-contending side. Air Force SC, despite their efforts, will look to regroup and come back stronger in their next encounter against CR. Havies will be travelling to Hill Country to play Kandy SC at Nittawela.
Referee of the game was Kelum Sanadaruwan.
