Lasitha Attanagoda bids farewell to Kandy SC after 12 long years of service

Veteran Kandy Sports Club player Lasitha Attanagoda has announced his retirement from competitive rugby, bringing an illustrious 12-year journey with the hill capital club to an end.

Having joined Kandy SC in 2013, Attanagoda has been an integral part of the team’s dominance in Sri Lanka’s club rugby scene over the past decade.

During his time with Kandy, Attanagoda played under some of the greatest in the club’s history, including Roshan Weeraratne, Sean Wijesinghe, Fazil Marija, Gayan Weeraratne, Richard Dharmapala, Nigel Ratwatte, Damith Dissanayake, Lavanga Perera, and Srimath Sooriyabandara.

Attanagoda’s career at Kandy SC is decorated with success, featuring in nine league championship wins and 4 Clifford Cup wins and remaining unbeaten in six seasons, underlining his presence in Kandy’s golden era of rugby supremacy.

Before joining Kandy SC, Attanagoda showed his leadership skills by leading the 2012 Sylvester’s 1st XV outfit. His strong performances soon saw him earn a spot in the national XV-a-side outfit in 2015.
