Lakmal and Pravina stamp their class in China Bay

The fourth edition of the Eagles’ Monsoon Cup Golf Tournament concluded at the picturesque Eagles’ Golf Links, China Bay, Trincomalee last weekend.

Organised by the Sri Lanka Air Force in collaboration with Eagles’ Golf Links and Courses, the tournament attracted a strong field of over 80 golfers, including 13 lady golfers.

The event was sponsored by Aviyana Ceylon Resorts.

Wing Commander Lakmal Gunewardene (Retd.) emerged champion in the Gents’ category, capturing the Eagles’ Monsoon Cup Trophy with a composed and consistent display throughout the round. His ability to capitalise on scoring opportunities proved decisive on the challenging China Bay layout. Wing Commander Nalin Bentharaarachchi (Retd.), who finished runner-up after a commendable effort, pushing the winner all the way in a tightly contested contest.

In the Ladies’ category, Dr. Pravina Dunuwille showed fine technique and steady temperament to claim the top honours, standing out among a competitive field. Niloo Jayathilake secured the runner-up position after an impressive performance that reflected her growing stature in the women’s game.

Buddika Amarasinghe claiming the Longest Drive in the Gents’ division, while Air Chief Marshal Jayalath Weerakkody earned the Nearest to the PIN while Sandra Cadien was the standout in the Ladies’ Longest Drive category.

In the Tri-Services segment, Wing Commander Asantha Gunaratne of the Sri Lanka Air Force claimed the Eagles’ Monsoon Defence Challenge Trophy, with Lieutenant Commander Mevan Perera of the Sri Lanka Navy finishing runner-up. Commodore Mangala Mummullage won the Defence Longest Drive, while Wing Commander Lakmal Gunewardene (Retd) also topped the Six Hidden Holes segment. Group Captain Prabath Wijekoon received the prestigious Commander’s Island Green Award, bringing a fitting close to a memorable tournament. (SJ)
