Jaffna Kings have won the LPL tile on four occasions
Player registration portal now live till 20 May
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and IPG Group (IPG), the event rights holder of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), are confident of attracting a strong pool of international talent for the 2026 edition of Sri Lanka’s premier T20 franchise tournament.
The online portal for foreign player registration for LPL 2026 went live from yesterday.
The portal will remain open until 20 May. The portal can be accessed through the official Sri Lanka Cricket website (www.srilankacricket.lk).
The registration window is expected to draw interest from players worldwide. Top players from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, New Zealand, the West Indies and Australia have already shown interest in playing in the league. In the previous edition, more than 600 overseas players registered for the tournament.
For the 2026 edition, SLC also plans to broaden the league’s international player base by attracting talent from emerging and associate cricketing nations, including Ireland, Scotland, Zimbabwe, Nepal, USA, Oman, Italy, Namibia and the Netherlands, alongside participation from established cricket markets.
“We are absolutely delighted with the interest and enquiries from top cricketers across all cricket-playing nations who want to play in Season 6 of the LPL. The overwhelming response from players clearly underlines the growing status of LPL”, said LPL Tournament Director Samantha Dodanwela.
Each team will be permitted to include two international marquee players and two Sri Lankan marquee players, strengthening the competitive balance and international appeal of the tournament. The pre-signed players for LPL 2026 are expected to be announced next week.
The sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League will be played across four venues: SSC, Colombo; RPICS, Colombo; PICS, Pallekele; and RDICS, Dambulla. The tournament is scheduled to take place from 10 July to 5 August.
The Lanka Premier League 2026 will be conducted by SLC, the LPL’s owner, in partnership with commercial partner the IPG Group.
Since its launch in 2020, the LPL has completed five seasons, and Jaffna Kings have emerged as the league’s most successful side, winning four titles.
