Kingswood College secured their first victory of the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2025 season with a spirited 27/18 win over Zahira College, which concluded at Maradana last weekend.
This was the Randles Hills school’s first win.
Led by their dynamic scrum-half Thavisha Ekanayake, Kingswood displayed grit and control, scoring three well-constructed tries and converting all of them. Adding to the tally were two crucial penalties, which kept the scoreboard ticking at critical moments and helped them maintain a narrow lead. Zahira, playing in front of their home crowd, put up a brave fight with two tries of their own, one conversion, and two penalties. However, they struggled to contain Kingswood’s structured attack and were unable to capitalise on several second-half opportunities.
This win not only lifts Kingswood’s morale but also keeps them in contention for a Plate round qualification as the tournament progresses into its crucial phase.
The Referee was Aruna Shantha. (SJ)
