Kingswood 22 points

Ananda 16 points

Kingswood College kept their Plate title alive with a hard fought 22/16 win over Ananda College in a closely contested Dialog Schools Rugby League encounter at the Bogambara Stadium last evening.

Ananda holding a narrow 6/5 in an error full of handling errors by both the teams.

The first half was riddled with handling errors from both sides, disrupting momentum. Ananda dominated possession and territory but failed to capitalise on their chances due to poor finishing and not gaining the much-needed points as they could not convert territory into points.

Ananda full-back Dineth Chamuditha was the standout performer for the visitors. He was exceptional in both attack and defence, he contributed 11 points for the Maradana outfit out of the 16 with a beautiful left corner flag conversion and three penalties.

The home team came alive in the second half with their full back, Rivin Bahudeen having a grand game with some ghosting moves which out Ananda outfit foxed. Bahudeen and fly half, Rusith Thomdya along with skipper, Thaveesha Ekanayake had an outstanding game. The Randles Hills outfit looked a different team with the mobility of forwards and combining well with their speedy three-quarter line.

Kingswood scored four tries through, Sachintha Naveesha, Thaveesha Ekanayake, Rivin Bahudeen and Thushan Madugalla, with one conversion successfully put over by Bahudeen. Ananda’s lone try came from Nethmina Wijewardena.  Dineth Chamuditha, Ananda full back put over three penalties and was accurate in one try conversion as well.

Referee Aruna Shantha had very good control over the game.

In another game at Nittawela Rugby Stadium, Thurstan College beat Dharmaraja College 37/22.

At the short breather Thurstan led 20/15.

Rajans going through one of the worst seasons are yet to register a single win in their seven outings are in a danger for demotion in 2026.
