Keen contest in offing in Plate Segment

As the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2025 enters its Plate Segment in Round 2, the level of competition is expected to rise significantly, with all six qualified teams appearing evenly matched. With pride and promotion at stake, every game carries added weight.

The standout fixture in this segment will take place at Maradana on 19 July, where Zahira College hosts D.S. Senanayake College in a highly anticipated clash for the 5th R.I.T. Alles Memorial Trophy. This traditional rivalry consistently delivers an intense battle, and with both teams showing promise in the opening round, a thrilling encounter is expected. The series currently stands at two games apiece.

Referee will be Raveen Alexander.

Up in the hills, Kingswood College will lock horns with St. Joseph’s College at Bogambara in what is considered the most anticipated Plate encounter of the week. The lads from Randles Hill have done well in their last three games—after narrowly losing to S. Thomas’ by a single point and suffering a heavy defeat to Isipathana, they regrouped to win their next three encounters. Momentum is on their side. Meanwhile, St. Joseph’s are no pushovers. Despite defeats to Trinity and Royal, they drew against Vidyartha, secured a win over Thurstan, and recorded a resounding victory over Sumangala.

Referee will be Jeewaka Fonseka.

Ananda College will take on Sri Sumangala College at Rajagiriya in what will be the Kandy outfit’s only fixture in Colombo this season. Sumangala will be keen to make a statement in this match, having given a commendable account of themselves in Round 1.

Referee will be Charani Liyanage.

All three matches in the Plate Segment will be played on 19 July.
