Kavindu Perera to lead Sri Lanka Sevens at Asia Rugby Series

Former Vidyartha College speedster and current Kandy SC star winger, Kavindu Perera has been entrusted with the captaincy of the Sri Lanka Sevens outfit for the upcoming Asia Rugby Sevens Series. 

The tournament will feature two legs – the first in China next month followed by the Colombo leg in October 2025 at the Racecourse Ground.

Kavindu, renowned for his blistering pace and sharp finishing skills, has been a consistent performer at both club and national levels. His appointment reflects his leadership qualities and experience, making him the ideal choice to guide a youthful Sri Lankan side on the Asian stage.

The men’s squad will be under the guidance of Head Coach Shamli Nawas the former Isipathana, CR, and national player who handles Thurstan and Army SC at present. He will be assisted by Raveeve Perera.

The touring squad will comprise 12 players and three officials in each of the Men’s and Women’s outfits. On the women’s front, Asela Deshapriya current DS and Air Force, Head Coach will be in charge with Sujani Rathnayake assisting.

The team: Kavindu Perera (Captain), Akash Madushanka, Dilan Ekanayake, Janindu Wijerathne,Yehan Bulathsinghalage, Jayathu Rajarathne, Nalan Deshapriya, Ravindhu Hettiarachchi, Gayan Perera, Lahiru Thilakaratne, Mohamed Rifan, Kalana Chamuditha, Aaron Corea, Devinda Rathnayake, Nisran Nilar, Heshan Janson, Vishenka Silva, Danush Dange, Chatura Soysa, Shaahid Zumri, Suranga Tennakoon, Janith Marasinghe, and Sashika Fernando.
