Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage, acting under provisions of the Sports Law and Extraordinary Gazette regulation, has approved a new five-member selection committee yesterday headed by former Sri Lanka fast bowler Kapila Wijegunawardene.
A media release from the Sports Ministry stated:
“I am pleased to inform you that the Youth Affairs and Sports Minister under the Provisions of the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973 section 39-1 and Extra Ordinary Gazette notification No. 2437/24 dated 21 May 2025 has approved the following officials for the Selection Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket: Kapila Wijegunawardene (Chairman), Amal Silva, Brendon Kuruppu, Waruna Waragoda and Vanessa de Silva.”
Wijegunawardene has held the Chairman of Selectors post previously, and Silva and Kuruppu, both former national cricketers, have served in past selection panels.
The new selection committee replaces the one previously headed by another former Sri Lanka fast bowler Pramodya Wickramasinghe.
