Kandy SC winger Dinal Ekanayake on a brave move, with support coming his way from Dahan and Jensen
By Shamseer Jaleel
The Kandy Sports Club continued their unbeaten streak with a commanding 32/10 victory over CR & FC at Longdon Place last evening.
The defending champions showed their attacking power and defensive resilience to secure a crucial bonus-point win, further strengthening their position at the top of the standings. At the short breather, they led 15/7.
Kandy started strong, with centre Danushka Ranjan leading the charge, crossing the whitewash twice. Kavindu Perera also made his mark with a brace of tries, while Dahan Wickramarachchi added another to round off an impressive attacking display. Tarinda Ratwatte was solid with the boot, successfully converting two tries and slotting in a penalty to ensure Kandy maximised their scoring opportunities. But Tari had a poor start for his kicking, missing all three of them, but hit back strong in the later half.
CR & FC, despite their determined effort, struggled to break through Kandy’s structured defence. Their lone try came from Achitha Radeeshan, with Mursheed Doray adding the conversion and a penalty to bring their tally to 10 points. However, it was not enough to counter Kandy’s relentless attack and superior game management. With this victory, Kandy SC not only secured a bonus point but also extended their lead in the standings. They now hold a 10-point advantage over CR & FC and maintain a comfortable five-point lead over their closest rivals, Havelock SC.
Kandy’s form has been exemplary this season, and their ability to dominate high-stakes encounters shows what a professional set of players they are, never cracking under pressure.
Referee Raveen Alexander had great control in the game.
In another encounter, Police SC beat Sri Lions SC 28/10. Amjad Faumy (2), Akash Madushanka, and Hafiz Thabeeth scored the tries for the Cops, while Sri Lions scored their two tries through Chanaka Chandimal.
Referee Aruna Shantha controlled the game.
