The Sri Lanka Under-19 Youth League tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket produced a record run chase at Samadhi grounds in Anuradhapura with a total of 713 runs being scored.

Kandy U19 beat Colombo South U19 by three wickets in the contest with two balls to spare. Colombo South scored 356-5 and Kandy replied with 357-7.

Opener Reshan Peiris scored a splendid century (112 off 93 balls, 13 fours, 4 sixes) to set up Colombo South’s total, being involved in two fruitful partnerships of 78 with Suwahas Fernando (31) and 141 with Hirun Matheesha (73 off 75 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes). A late partnership of 67 off 56 balls for the fourth wicket by skipper Ramiru Perera (33 off 30) and Jason Fernando (27* off 18) saw them past the 350-run mark.

Faced with the tall task of overhauling this big target, Kandy went about it methodically, with four batsmen scoring half-centuries and one of them being dismissed for 49.

The best partnership of their innings was 95 for the second wicket between Dimantha Mahavitharana (51 off 58 balls, 4 fours) and Yoshitha Isuranga (52 off 57 balls, 5 fours), followed by one of 70 off 50 balls by Kavija Gamage (49 off 45) and Aadam Hilmy (72* off 63 balls, 5 fours). However, the match defining partnership was 86 off 63 balls for the seventh wicket by Hilmy and Sethmika Seneviratne (53 off 34 balls, 6 fours, 1 six).

Colombo South was guilty of conceding 44 extras, of which 28 were wides.
