Joes restrain Royal’s Try spree

The marching Saints put up a gallant performance to disrupt the free flowing Try spree of the Royal Tuskers on a dry Friday evening. Joes defended reasonably well and attacked constantly with purpose, during the latter part of the first half and in the second half, that frustrated the Royalists in giving away abundant penalties that Joes utilised to seal a few Try deals. Moreover, Joes’ defence successfully held-up two potential groundings by the Royal Tuskers saving 14 points, while a thundering tackle saved an imminent Royal Try to save another 7, quite close to the Saints’ goal line.

Though the Saints remained reasonably saintly throughput the game with a decent eight violations of the law, some of them led to Royal scoring Tries.

In the prior half, Royal managed to advance into Joes’ territory by capitalising on the ‘high tackle’ infringement by the Saints, and subsequently scored a converted Try by means of ‘pick and drives’.

Royal scored a Try in the second half, off a penalty awarded for ‘collapsing maul’. Although Joes did quite well in defending Royal Mauls, one got through the cracks, hence require further tactical options or/and practice in order to counter and diffuse Mauls, before the crucial forthcoming encounters.

Had this game been played under the TMO setting, two Royal Tries may have been turned down, making the deficit even slimmer, and the contest even tighter. Nevertheless, with the few cameras that were positioned for ‘on-field assessment,’ the referee could not view the footage with the angle of his choice to ascertain a possible forward pass, and an off side during kick, before two of the Tries in question were scored. However, in the absence of evidence to prove otherwise, these two Tries were awarded.
