In the Plate segment of the Dialog Schools Under-19 Rugby League 2025, St. Joseph’s College, D.S. Senanayake College, and Ananda College recorded vital wins over the weekend, cementing their positions as top contenders in the lower tier.
St. Joseph’s outclassed a weakened Kingswood outfit 31/22 at the Bogambara Stadium. The Josephians, who led 21/17 at halftime, maintained their structure despite Kingswood’s spirited play. With four key players missing, Kingswood lacked depth and now face an uphill battle to regain momentum in the Plate competition.
Meanwhile, D.S. Senanayake College produced a thrilling 41/35 win over Zahira College in Maradana to lift the R.I.T. Alles Memorial Challenge Trophy. Leading 22/7 at the break, D.S. withstood a late Zahira fight back to edge home and now lead the trophy series 3-2. In an outstanding gesture, Zahira College contributed Rs. 1 million from the gates for the medical needs of junior DS player, Janodya.
Ananda College rounded off the weekend’s Plate fixtures with a dominant 36/17 victory over Sri Sumangala College, Kandy, at Rajagiriya. The Anandians played structured rugby and showcased superior fitness and pace to seal the game convincingly.
These results leave St. Joseph’s, D.S. Senanayake, and Ananda well-placed in the Plate standings as the race heats up heading into the final stretch of the League.
