Jevahn takes early lead

The 2025 Kandy Regional Junior Open Golf Championship 2025 teed off in fine style at the Victoria Golf Resort (VGR) in Rajawella yesterday. The opening day showed outstanding performances across all junior divisions, reflecting the growing depth of talent in Sri Lanka’s junior golf circuit.

This prestigious event, sponsored by Prima Bread for more than 15 years, has become a key platform for nurturing future golfing stars.

In the Boys Gold Division (15–18 years), Jevahn Sathasivam stole the spotlight with a brilliant round of 71. His steady play set the pace, with Reshan Algama close behind on 73. Meanwhile, Adhithya Weerasinghe and Jacob Norton were tied in third, carding 74 each, underlining how closely contested this division is.

The Girls Gold Division saw Keya Abhayaratne take the lead with a round of 88. She was followed by Anumi Karunathilake on 91, while Sithara Lorance stayed in contention with 92. The top three are separated by just four strokes, leaving plenty to play for.

In the Boys’ Silver Division (13–14 years), Lavindu Premarathna posted a solid 80 to lead. Udeera Bandara followed with 86, while Shahika Amarasinghe finished on 93. Among the girls, Genuli Weerakoon carded 92 to top the leaderboard, ahead of Ravindran Keerthna on 102.

The Boys’ Bronze Division (11–12 years) produced a thrilling tie between Yuvan Rathiskanth and Thuwakaran Prabagaran, both carding 61. Kenul Schofield ended third with 65.

In the girls segment Sethuki Dinanya was on top with 72 followed by Fatima Zeeniya and Vihara Thisarani tied on 73,

In the Bronze boys 11 to 12 years, rock solid , Jaeden Sathasivam defending his title carded 37 followed by another talented and consistent, Abiman Abeywardhana who is tied with Janith Guruge on second place.

In the Bronze girls same segment saw Dulk8ni Kangara take the lead followed by Sithumali Sanath and Hakshara Pradeep.
