Following Sri Lanka’s exit from the T20 World Cup semi-finals, a lot of noise has been made about the future of head coach Sanath Jayasuriya in the media saying that he would quit his post. However nothing official has come forth either from Jayasuriya himself or for that matter Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
“We have been reading media reports of his resignation but he has not told us anything officially. We would be having a meeting with him on Wednesday or Thursday about the World Cup overall and also about the going forward part of it,” said Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva.
“To be honest, after we received media reports that he was going to resign after the World Cup some time ago, we had spoken to a few people but nothing has been finalised. There are people interested but we can’t finalise anything until we hear from Sanath and what he wants to do. Everything depends on what he has to say about his future plans when we meet this week.”
Jayasuriya’s contract with SLC does not expire till June. He took over as head coach after the 2024 T20 World Cup in June.
Sri Lanka’s next two international engagements till June are a white ball series against Afghanistan in the UAE and a two-Test tour of the West Indies in June which is part of the ICC World Test Championship. – [ST]
