Isipathana skipper Shaakib Zumri on a powerful move
Isipathana College continued their unbeaten run in the Dialog Schools Under-19 Rugby League with a convincing 33-6 victory over Lumbini College in their encounter played at the Ananda College Ground in Rajagiriya yesterday.
The Green Shirts dominated the first half with their trademark running rugby and went into the break with a comfortable 21-3 advantage after crossing over for three well-worked tries. Their swift backline movements and strong support play kept the Lumbini defence under pressure throughout the opening half.
Although the second half produced several handling errors from both sides, Isipathana still managed to control possession and territory for long periods. Lumbini showed glimpses of promise with a few attacking phases but failed to finish off their scoring opportunities.
Isipathana skipper Shaakib Zumri led from the front with a powerful all-round display, while Nimantha Sandeepa impressed with his game management and accurate kicking. Their experience proved vital in maintaining the momentum for the Greens.
Yuvindu Kodithuwakku (2), Mohamed Jaffran, Zumri, and Sandeepa scored the tries for Greens. Sandeepa was successful with four conversions.
Lumbini’s only points came through two penalties successfully slotted over by Sachintha Induwara.
Praneeth Weranga controlled the proceedings.
Isipathana, who continued their winning streak, will travel to Central Hills to meet Kandy Sri Sumangala at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium in Pallekele next weekend. (SJ)
