Defending schools knock-out champions, Isipathana College will take on Royal College in a high-stakes second semi-final of the Inter-School Presidents Knockout Rugby Tournament on 11 May at Havelock Park. Kick-off is expected at 4 p.m. which will draw a massive crowd as two of Colombo rugby top teams clash for a spot in the final.

Isipathana, who edged past St. Peter’s College in last year’s final, enter the game at full strength. They are led by dynamic second-row forward Thrinethra Dodangoda, a towering presence in both line-outs and open play. Pack leader, Shaakib Zumri continues to be a standout performer with his ball-carrying ability and work at the breakdown. At the back, full-back Nimantha Sandeepa offers reliability and attacking flair from the last line of defence. The team is coached by Danushka Botheju, who has moulded a well-drilled Greens unit this season.

Royal College, meanwhile, are no strangers to knockout pressure. Led by the calm and collected Amika Samarasinghe, they also boast the explosive Idris Farook, one of the most consistent performers in the tournament. Many of the Reid Avenue lads are at Under 18 this year in a learning curve. Under the guidance of Sri Lanka National Forwards Coach, Dushanth Lewke, the Royal outfit has shown remarkable discipline and structure throughout the two games played so far.

Both teams are evenly matched in terms of form and talent. The side that settles quicker and manages pressure better will likely book their place in the final on 18 May.

Referee Raveen Alexander will officiate what promises to be a thrilling encounter between two traditional rugby giants.
