Isipathana College continued their winning streak in the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2025 with a gritty 32/22 win over Kingswood College in one of the worst ground conditions at the Bogambara Stadium yesterday.

Heavy rainfall just minutes before the commencement of the game made handling and footing difficult, but the Greens led 12/10 at half-time.

At the heart of their victory was the outstanding performance of Greens scrum-half Sithupa Bometh, whose all-round display stood out in a match that tested skill, composure, and resilience. Operating from the base, Bometh was the driving force behind Isipathana’s attacking structure, orchestrating play with remarkable game sense despite the slippery ball and muddy field.

Bometh crossed the line twice himself, showing his eye for the gap and agility around the fringes – tireless work in both attack and defence that separated him from the rest. His sharp passing, sniping runs, and relentless tackling were instrumental in keeping Kingswood’s surges at bay and providing momentum to his own side. Their skipper, Dodangoda, too had a great game leading from the front.

Isipathana ran in six tries through Sithupa Bometh (2), Nimantha Sandeepa, Sethuma Rajapakse, Kaveen Jayasinghe, and Avishka Hiran. Only one of them was converted.

Kingswood, to their credit, played with heart and refused to go down quietly. They played well in patches but lost control of the game in between the third and fourth quarter of the game. Though they came with a gap of five points, it was the Greens who ran away in the end with a bonus point win. At times, the lads from Randles Hill were too anxious to cross the try line without getting their basics correct.

Kingswood scored four tries of their own through Dulaj Fernando (2), Maduranga Pushpakumara, and Asheek Azmi, with Azmi adding a conversion.

The Referee was Ishanka Abeykoon.

Wesley beat DS 29/10

Wesley College too continued their winning ways when they outclassed DS Senanayake College 29/10 at Longdon Place yesterday.

At the short breather, Wesley led 21/3.

DS made a strong comeback in the later half, not allowing the Double Blues to cross more than one try, but the points they conceded in the initial half was too much to regain control.

The Referee was Raveen Alexander.
