The December Monthly Medal 2025 at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC), sponsored by the WASPS Golf Group, brought the curtain down on the golfing year in fitting style, showing depth, diversity and competitive excellence across all divisions. Played over two days and attracting more than 280 golfers, the event once again reaffirmed RCGC’s stature as the heartbeat of Sri Lankan golf and highlighted the vital role played by WASPS Group in sustaining competitive club golf.
The spotlight firmly belonged to Indunil Wijekoon, who produced a masterclass in consistency and control to claim the Overall Nett title with an impressive 63. His composed performance across the course reflected both experience and finesse, setting the benchmark for the field. Equally outstanding was Kumar Danushan, who captured the Overall Gross title with a superb 69, underlining his growing reputation as one of the club’s most reliable performers.
Danushan continued his dominance in Division A (0–9 handicap), winning the Gross segment with authority. Adam Fernando emerged as the Division A Nett winner with a fine 68, edging out Romesh Abhayaratne in a closely contested battle that reflected the high standards at the top end of the handicap spectrum.
Division B (10–18 handicap) delivered some of the most competitive golf of the tournament, with Afflli Raheem enjoying a memorable outing by completing a Nett–Gross double. His Nett score of 66, decided on the back nine, saw him narrowly overcome Prabath Gamage, while his Gross score of 78 sealed a well-earned clean sweep.
In Division C (19–28 handicap), Indunil Wijekoon added further gloss to his weekend by winning the Nett title, complementing his Overall success. Andy Anderson secured the Gross honours, while Upkeep Kuruppu finished runner up in the Nett category with a solid 65.
The senior and masters categories also produced notable performances. Sunimal Salgado topped the Seniors Nett, with Kumar Boralessa winning the Seniors Gross and finishing runner up in the Nett. In the Masters division, T.P. Ramaranjan impressed with a brilliant Nett score of 61, while Bandula Weerasinghe claimed the Gross title.
Junior and ladies events underlined the inclusive nature of the Monthly Medal. Lithum Silva (Nett) and Jacob Norton (Gross) led the juniors, while Keya Abhayaratne achieved a commendable Nett–Gross double in the Ladies Silver Division. In the Bronze Division, Liza Rebert and Mi Lim Sung shared honours, and Niranjali Amarasuriya won the Ladies Seniors Nett.
Sachin de Silva won the Longest Drive at 8th hold while T. Sundaralingam won the Closest to the PIN in the 9th hole.
Beyond the scores, the true success of the event lay in the unwavering support of the WASPS Group of golfers, whose continued sponsorship and commitment have strengthened the Monthly Medal into one of the most anticipated fixtures on the RCGC calendar. Their backing ensured a professionally run, inclusive tournament that brought together over 280 golfers, celebrating the spirit of the game and setting a strong foundation for the year ahead.
