On the festive occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day, the Indian Cultural Association (ICA) has announced that the second edition of the ICA International Half-Marathon will take place in Colombo on 14 December. This much-anticipated event will once again bring together running enthusiasts from across the globe, showcasing Colombo as a vibrant sporting and tourism destination.
The 2024 ICA International Half-Marathon, endorsed by Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Disanayake and Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jah, was held in September and attracted over 1,400 athletes from 20 countries, with runners competing in the Half-Marathon (21.1 km), Challengers Run (10 km), and Family Run (5 km). The flat, scenic course through Colombo’s bustling streets and coastal roads offered athletes and spectators alike a memorable experience, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback has paved the way for an even bigger and better second edition.
The ICA will once again dedicate proceeds from the 2025 race towards CSR initiatives across Sri Lanka. In 2024, all the runners pledged support for organ donation and awareness, assisting orphanages, and planting Na trees in schools.
ICA President Captain Banerjee speaking about the 2025 event, said, “The first ICA International Half-Marathon exceeded all our expectations. The energy, the community spirit, and the support we received from sponsors, volunteers, and the people of Colombo were incredible. We anticipate a larger international presence in 2025, with runners from South Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond. We aim to draw elite athletes alongside recreational runners, fostering an atmosphere of friendly competition.”
Online registration for the 2025 ICA International Half-Marathon will open on 1 Sep. Participants can expect early-bird discounts. Further details, including race pack collection, route maps, and entertainment schedules, will be announced closer to the date.
