India Women took a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match Under19 unofficial ODI series when they beat Sri Lanka Women by 49 runs in the second match played at Puducherry yesterday.

Sri Lanka did well to restrict the strong Indian batting line-up to 209-8 in the 50 overs, but found themselves short of players to convert starts into a match-winning innings as they were bowled out for 160 in 41.2 overs. India at one stage were 122-6 in the 33rd over, but were rescued by their late order.

Pramudi Methsara top scored for Sri Lanka with a bright 42 off 27 balls (6 fours, 1 six) but no one else made more than 21.

In the first match of the series which Sri Lanka lost by 120 runs, India batting first piled up an imposing 279-8 with opener Ira Jadhav anchoring the innings scoring a stylish 83 off 104 balls (12 fours). She was supported by Nidhi Mahto (54 off 51 balls, 9 fours, 1 six) and captain Bhavika Ahire (42 off 45 balls, 5 fours).

Sri Lanka were dismissed for 159 in 48.5 overs with Manudi Nanayakkara making a top score of 47 off 79 balls (4 fours, 1 six).

The third and final match will be played at the same venue on Monday.
