India’s white ball tour of Sri Lanka not feasible

Lanka Premier League postponed for December

The chance of India making a six-match white ball tour to Sri Lanka next month is unlikely to take place due to the tight international schedule of both countries.

India were due to tour Bangladesh for a white-ball series in August, which was later moved to September 2026.

There was a possibility of Sri Lanka filling that void, but with the present Indian tour to England not ending till the first week of August and Sri Lanka due to tour Zimbabwe from the last week of August fitting in a white ball series in between was not feasible, Sri Lanka Cricket sources said.

Also, the sixth season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) that was scheduled to be held in August has been postponed for December to coincide with the national team’s preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February-March 2026.

Leading up to the World Cup, Sri Lanka will have the LPL in December, a six-match white-ball series against England at home in January, and the T20 World Cup in February–March.

Meanwhile, a final decision has yet to be reached regarding the Asia Cup, which India is due to host in September. The Asia Cup will be played in the T20I format, but the venue has yet to be finalised. The UAE is being considered the most likely venue to host the tournament, although nothing has been confirmed.

Sri Lanka would have been the ideal venue to host the event, but due to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup taking place from 30 September to 2 November, it is not possible.

At least 12 of the Women’s World Cup matches are scheduled to be played at Colombo’s R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, which could include a semi-final and possibly the final, should Pakistan qualify.

Host nation India will take on Sri Lanka in the World Cup curtain-raiser on 30 September in Bengaluru.
