Havelock Sports Club will approach their final Round One fixture against Police Sports Club at Police Park today knowing that a strong finish could be crucial heading into the second phase of the competition.

Despite a season of mixed results, the Park Club have shown enough quality and resilience to suggest they remain a serious contender, particularly when matches tighten and pressure builds.

Havies have been tested against the very best this season and those experiences appear to have hardened the side. Their overall strength, especially in the tight exchanges, has allowed them to stay competitive even in defeat, while their ability to lift their intensity in key moments has been a notable feature. With the Cup segment in Round Two firmly in sight, they will be eager to impose themselves early and control the tempo of the game. Havies lost out to CR and Kandy SC while drawing level against Navy SC in the opener.

Police Sports Club, however, will not be short of confidence. Their recent victory over Army has injected momentum into the side and reinforced belief within the squad. Playing at home, Police are expected to start strongly, using energy and urgency to put their opponents under pressure and test their discipline.

All indications point towards a closely fought contest, with both teams trading phases and territory for long periods. While Police have the confidence of recent success, Havies greater depth and big-match experience could prove decisive. If they manage the game smartly and remain composed in the closing stages, the Park Club should just edge a tight and competitive encounter.

Referee Jeewaka Fonseka will handle the whistle.
