Havies and CR in a do-die battle today

The second semi-final of the 2025 Clifford Cup Knock out rugby will take place today (2 April) when Havelock Sports Club takes on CR and FC at Havelock Park.

Kick-off is at 4 p.m.

Winner of this encounter will play Kandy Sports Club on 6 April at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium.

CR booked their spot in the semi-finals with a second half burst against the Cops after being led by the visitors in the first half. Meanwhile, Havies showed their dominance by outclassing Army SC in their quarter-final encounter. With both teams carrying momentum into this crucial fixture, it promises to be a thrilling contest between two of Sri Lanka’s rugby powerhouses.

Havies finished second in the league just ahead of CR, who claimed third position. This indicates just how close the two sides are in terms of form and ability, setting the stage for an evenly matched showdown.

Havies will be led by cracking forward, Abdullah Faiz, who has been a key figure in their campaign. His leadership and tactical awareness will be crucial as they look to secure a spot in the final. Jayathu Rajarathna been their stand out player this season with some powerful run down the wing which foxed many teams this year. Given space Reds could be in trouble. On the other hand, CR will be captained by the experienced Lasindu Karunathilake as the regular skipper, Gemunu Chetiya is yet to fully recover from his knee injury.
