Hasaranga’s brother Chaturanga excels for NCC

NCC all-rounder Chaturanga de Silva hits a six in the match against Kalutara TC at the NCC grounds yesterday

Chaturanga de Silva, elder brother of the famed Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, came up with a fine all-round performance to give NCC a comfortable six-wicket win over Kalutara TC in a Major Limited Over match played at the NCC grounds yesterday.

Chaturanga took 5/15 with his slow left-arm spin to bowl-out Kalutara TC for 78 and then hit an unbeaten 28 off 15 balls (two sixes, one four) to see NCC over the line.

A depleted SSC side, led by Sri Lanka Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne, suffered a one-run defeat under the Duckworth/Lewis method to Bloomfield at the SSC grounds. In a match reduced to 36 overs, Bloomfield scored 200/8. SSC’s target was revised to 140 from 28 overs, but they fell short by two runs, scoring 138/3.

In the other matches, Ragama CC, Lankan CC, BRC, Negombo CC, Badureliya SC, Tamil Union and Kurunegala YCC recorded wins, while the match between Galle CC and Ace Capital CC ended in a no-result without a ball bowled.

At Thurstan Road: Kandy Customs CC 113 (25.5) (Minhaj Jalil 28, Kasun Madushanka 2/13) lost to Lankan CC 116-3 (19.4) (Lahiru Dilshan 61*) by seven wickets.
At BRC: BRC 186 (48) (Yuran Nimasha 38, Movin Subasingha 3/32) beat Air Force SC 140 (38.3) (Udayawansha Parakrama 30, Dan Mousley 3/32, Chameera Dissanayake 4/18) by 47 runs. (D/L method).
