SLC Major Club Women’s Limited-Over tournament

 

One of Sri Lanka women’s top batters Harshitha Samarawickrama scored her second century of the ongoing SLC Major Clubs Women’s Limited-Over tournament as table toppers Navy SC thrashed the daylights out of Colts winning by a comprehensive margin of 194 runs in their match played at Welisara yesterday.

Harshitha struck 8 fours in her 135-ball knock of 112 and shared a second wicket stand of 119 with Nilakshana Sandamini (61 off 94 balls, 4 fours) as Navy SC invited to bat first came up with a total of 235-4. Harshitha started the tournament with 140 against Badureliya CC. Colts were rattled by the seam bowling of Sathya Sandeepani (4/18) and the left-arm spin of Inoka Ranaweera (4/16) to be shot out for 41 in 19.4 overs.  

Second placed Air Force SC also had an easy win beating Ace Capital CC by 47 runs at Katunayake. In a rain-affected game Air Force SC totalled 87-9 in 30.2 overs and dismissed Ace Capital CC for 40 in 16 overs. Right-arm fast bowler Malki Madara’s deliveries proved too much for the opposition as she went onto capture 5/11 off 6 overs. Spinners Devagi Jeganathan (3/17) and Vaneesa Rodrigo (3/14) performed best for Ace Capital CC.

Off-spinner Dewmi Vihanga was Chilaw Marians CC match-winner with figures of 4/17 in their 7-wicket win (DLS method) over CCC at the CCC grounds. CCC were dismissed for 109 in 39.1 overs and Chilaw Marians CC got the required runs scoring 117-3 of which 100 runs came in two partnerships of 54 and 46* involving Imesha Dulani (37*) with Dewmi Vihanga (33) and Manudi Nanayakkara (27*).

In a clash for the fourth spot Panadura SC edged out Army SC by 13 runs (DLS method) at the Panadura esplanade. In a low scoring match Panadura SC were all out for 90 off 39.5 overs. Army SC were dismissed for 77 in 28 overs. Spinners Yasanthi Herath (3/19) and Rismi Sanjana (3/6) bowled best for Panadura SC where national player Nilakshi Silva was Army SC’s top scorer with 31. Left-arm spinner Nimasha Madushani (4/13) and seamer Achini Kulasuriya (3/16) shone for Army SC. Ashani Kawshalya scored 33 for Panadura SC.

Newcomers SSC suffered their fifth defeat going down to Badureliya CC by 23 runs (DLS method) at Surrey Village grounds, Maggona. Badureliya CC scored 137-9 in 44 overs and dismissed SSC 114 in 39. Slow left-arm orthodox spinner Hirunika Niwarathani took 4/23 for Badureliya CC. – [ST]
