A special ceremony was held last week at the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry to honour the athletes who brought pride to Sri Lanka by winning seven medals at the 6th Asian Beach Games held in Sanya, China.
Their exceptional performance elevated Sri Lanka to the 10th position in the medal tally among 45 Asian nations.
The event was presided over by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage, with the participation of Sports Deputy Minister Sugath Thilakaratne and incoming National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) President Asanga Seneviratne.
Sri Lanka demonstrated record-breaking talent during the games, securing one Gold medal, two Silver medals, and four Bronze medals.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Gamage stated that the victory achieved by Nipuni Wasana and the team is a significant milestone for the ‘Mission Olympic’ program initiated by the Ministry.
Deputy Minister Thilakaratne emphasised that the Ministry is fully committed to guiding athletes toward the future Olympic dream by providing professional-level training and facilities.
