Shahan Kaushalya rescued Lankan CC with an unbeaten century

The Governor’s Trophy two-day tournament is heading for a tight finish after Lankan CC completed their two matches with a draw against Old Dharmapalians SC at Police Park yesterday.
Lankan CC are currently on top of the standings with 2 points gained from drawn matches against Saracens SC and Old Dharmapalians SC who each have a point with one game in hand.
It leaves the final match of the tournament between Saracens SC and Old Dharmapalians SC scheduled for 19 and 20 June at Surrey Cricket Ground Maggona to decide which team will finish on top.
The champion team will be promoted to play in Tier B for the 2026-27 season.
Invited to bat first Lankan CC piled up an impressive score of 301-7 declared courtesy of a face-saving century from Shahan Kaushalya (101* off 106 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes) and a dour knock of 71 off 187 balls (5 fours) by Sasindu Bettage. The pair rescued the side from a disastrous start with a partnership of 134 for the seventh wicket when they had lost half the side for 92. Left-arm spinner Ruchira Silva who caused the Lankan CC top order collapse ended with figures of 4/83 off 27.1 overs.
In their reply Old Dharmapalians SC hung on to force a draw, finishing on 227-8. They lost their first four wickets for 95 before Viranga Yeshan (45) and Tharindu Lakshan (63 off 64 balls, 5 fours, 4 sixes) came together in a stand of 78 for the fifth wicket. After that it was left to skipper Shanaka Sampath to keep his team out of further trouble defending stoutly 74 balls for 20* (2 fours) with no. 10 Nishan Perera (2* off 28 balls). – [ST]
