The Governor’s Trophy 2026 tournament has reached the semi-final stages following the completion of the group matches, with Lankan CC and Old Dharmapalians SC qualifying from Group A, and Saracens SC and Sandalanka CC from Group B.

The semi-finals, which will be played today (2), see Lankan CC taking on Sandalanka CC at the Salawa Army Grounds, and Saracens SC meeting Old Dharmapalians SC at the Air Force Ground, Katunayake.

Lankan CC finished on top of Group A with Old Dharmapalians SC in second place, while in Group B, there was a three-way tie for first place with Saracens SC, Sandalanka CC, and Air Force SC each having 10 points. However, on the net run rate, Saracens SC finished on top, followed by Sandalanka CC.

Saracens SC and Old Dharmapalians SC have entered the semi-finals for the second successive year. Last year, Saracens SC reached the final and played Unichela SC. The match, however, was ruined by rain and ended in a no-result, with both teams being declared joint champions. Old Dharmapalians SC lost to Unichela SC in their semi-final match. Saracens SC will be determined to make it count this time and will go all the way.

The winners of the semi-finals will meet in the final, the date for which is yet to be announced.

The Governor’s Trophy champion team will be promoted to play in Tier B for the 2026-27 season.

Meanwhile, the two teams that finished at the bottom of the two groups, Hettipola SC (from Group A) and Ambepussa Singha SC (from Group B), will meet in a relegation match scheduled to be played on 5 June at the Salawa Army Grounds. The losing side will be relegated to play in the intra-provincial tournament.

For the second successive year, Hettipola SC find themselves at the bottom of the group. Last year, they survived relegation against Old Servatians. – [ST]
