With Dambulla having already booked a place in the National Super League 4-day final, the battle for the second finalist spot will be between defending champions Galle and Colombo who meet at the Rangiri Dambulla Cricket Stadium today.

Whoever wins the contest will join Dambulla in the final scheduled from 4-7 May at the R Premadasa Cricket Stadium.

Currently, Galle are second in the standings with 12.323 points and Colombo third with 9.265 points. So it’s more or less a straight semi-final clash between the two sides.

With the weather not being at its best in Dambulla, interruptions are bound to occur during the match. In the event of the contest ending in a no-result, then Galle who hold a three-point lead over Colombo will most likely to qualify for the final as only points for runs scored and wickets taken will count.

The other match which will be of academic interest is between table leaders Dambulla (26.665 points) and wooden spoonist Kandy (2.178) at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota. For Dambulla it will be more or less a warm-up game ahead of the final, while for winless Kandy it is the final opportunity to redeem themselves and end the tournament with a win. (ST)
