France’s Janeczek to be Head Coach of SL 7s outfit

Sri Lanka Rugby will sign up with former France international and Rugby Sevens coach Thierry Janeczek on a six-month deal to prepare the national sevens team for a medal at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan scheduled for October 2026.

He will also look after the national outfit at the Asian Sevens series in China and Sri Lanka.

Thierry played for France during the 1980s in XVs Rugby but his pet game was the shorter version of the game in Sevens Rugby. He represented his country in World Cup Sevens in 1993. He was the Head Coach of the France Sevens outfit from 1996 to 2010. He took the French under 18 outfit to Gold medal at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China during 2014 which was the major achievement in his coaching career.

Thierry will arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow. (SJ)
