SLC Under-23 inter-club two-day tournament

High scoring was the order of the day in the two SLC Under-23 inter-club two-day matches which began yesterday.

Taking pride of place is the match between Ace Capital CC and Colombo Malay CC at Air Force grounds, Katunayake. Ace Capital CC buoyed by a maiden century from former Trinity College left-hander Pawan Pathiraja – 153 off 205 balls (17 fours, 3 sixes) chalked up an imposing total of 378-8 declared scoring at nearly five runs an over. Pathiraja was the star of their batting, raising three noteworthy partnerships of 75 with Tanuja Rajapakse (53 off 66 balls, 9 fours), 74 with Ranesh Silva (45) and 115 with Theeraka Ranatunga (47). By stumps Colombo Malay CC had replied with 35-1 and faced a huge task of trying to overhaul Ace Capital CC’s total.

Three half-centuries formed CCC’s total of 327 against Leo CC at the Salawa Army ground, Kosgama. On top of the list was skipper Anjala Bandara’s knock of 74 off 101 balls (10 fours) followed by Sahan Kosala’s whirlwind innings 60 off 47 balls (11 fours) and Inuka Karanagoda’s 68 off 92 balls (8 fours). Bandara was involved in the highest stand of the innings 82 for the third wicket with Pawan Sandesh (27). Vishwa Rajapakse, the former Sri Lanka U19 seamer was the pick of the Leo CC bowlers with 4/101. Leo CC were 25 without loss by the close. Both matches continue on the second day today. – [ST]
