First win for Sumangala; Overcome Vidyartha

Sri Sumangala College Kandy secured their maiden victory in the Dialog Schools Under-19 Rugby League 2025 with a commendable 24/12 triumph over Vidyartha College in Week 3, held at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium last weekend.

At the short breather, it was Vidyartha who led 5/0.

The Sumangalians were determined from the outset, putting on a strong show to register four tries, of which two were converted, showing their growing confidence and attacking intent. Their forwards dominated in key phases, while the backs capitalised on gaps to break through the Vidyartha defence.

Vidyartha, despite scoring two tries and one conversion, struggled to match Sumangala’s intensity and tactical execution. The Kandy-based team could not replicate their earlier performances and were often forced into errors under pressure.

This landmark win marks an important step for Sri Sumangala College as they look to build momentum in the remainder of the League. It was a well-deserved result for a side that had shown promise but had not previously been able to convert it into points on the table.

With this win under their belt, Sumangala will be eager to carry their newfound confidence into their upcoming fixtures, while Vidyartha will be hoping to regroup and bounce back quickly from this setback. (SJ)
