Rain and slow over rate clip off 55 overs

The first 4-day unofficial test between Sri Lanka ‘A’ and India ‘A’ petered out into a tame draw at the Galle International Cricket Stadium with rain and a slow over rate maintained by both teams clipping off 55 overs over the four days.

Having gained a first innings lead of 122, India ‘A’ declared their second innings at 189-8 leaving Sri Lanka ‘A’ a stiff target of 312 to chase in a minimum of 30 overs.

Sri Lanka ‘A’ reached 70-2 at which stage the match was called off with the 15 mandatory overs not being utilized.

The highlight of the India ‘A’ second innings was the bowling of left-arm spinner Dilum Sudeera, the leading wicket-taker in the Major League 3-day tournament. He picked up his 24th five-fer in an innings in first-class cricket taking 5/49 off 15 overs.

India ‘A’s first innings centurion Sai Sudharsan was forced to retire hurt at 7 after being hit on the thumb twice - first, while fielding and then when batting in the second innings.
