In a landmark moment for Sri Lankan golf, FINTREX Finance PLC has signed a three-year partnership with the Hambantota Tuskers, one of the eight franchises of the inaugural Ceylon Golf League (CGL). The announcement, made at the Royal Colombo Golf Club last week, marks a significant step in elevating golf in the country.
The Ceylon Golf League, the brainchild of cricketing legend Mahela Jayawardene, along with Shamal Perera and Shuaib Sangani, introduces a league-style format to Sri Lankan golf, inspired by global sporting models such as the IPL and LPL. Eight franchises, each with its unique identity and roster, will compete to showcase the finest golfing talent the nation has to offer.
The Hambantota Tuskers, owned by visionary Tech Entrepreneur Sanjeewa Wickramanayake, Rohan Amirthiah, Avancka Herat – a distinguished group of shareholders – managed by Chandana Weerasinghe, and captained by Chalitha Pushpika are set to compete in the League’s inaugural season, which will tee off from 5 to 7 December at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. The tournament will feature a dynamic format including Foursome, Indies, and Fourball competitions, testing strategy, precision, and teamwork.

Their combined expertise, international exposure, and competitive spirit promise a high-octane display of skill and determination, setting the stage for a thrilling first season.
