The prestigious and traditional Governor’s Cup was held on 15 April at the Nuwara Eliya Racecourse, with Edwards Collection stepping in as the major sponsor.
The first race was run in the year 1892 at the Nuwara Eliya Racecourse. This year, there were five races in total, sponsored by Edwards Collection, HI!! Magazine, Sporting Star, and Sporting Times.

As the starter flagged off the race, Eddie the Eagle, a recent import from India owned by Gamini and Chamari Jayarathne and cleverly ridden by India-based jockey M.S. Deora and trained by S.V. Mathialagan, lifted the prestigious Governor’s Cup 2025.
Incidentally, another traditional race, the Queen’s Cup, sponsored by the Edwards Collection, was run a distance of 2,000 metres, which was won by another import from India, Square the Circle, owned by Hasanga Jayaratne and Paba Jayaratne and hard ridden by India-based jockey M.S. Deora and trained by S.V. Mathialagan.
The first race, sponsored by HI!! Magazine, was won by Zulu Fantasy owned by Edwards, ridden by P.S. Kaviraj and trained by S.D. Mahesh.
The second race, sponsored by Sporting Star, was won by Shaas Comrade, owned by Hasanga Jayaratne and Paba Jayaratne, hard ridden by India-based jockey P. Sai Kumar and trained by S.V. Mathialagan.
