Sri Lanka Under-19 Captain Dunith Wellalage


 

Dunith Wellalage, the left-handed all-rounder and captain of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo will lead Sri Lanka in the five-match Under-19 ODI series against Bangladesh starting at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium on 15 October.

A member of the Sri Lanka Under-19 team Wellalage, a left-hand bat and slow left-arm orthodox bowler made his first-class debut in 2019 and has played five first-class matches and four List A limited-over games for Lankan CC.

Sri Lanka will take 20 players from the total squad of 26 for the series to Dambulla today where they will go into a bio-bubble. The squad which is awaiting Education Ministry approval underwent two PCR tests (on Tuesday and yesterday) with all the players and officials returning negative results.  

Meanwhile the Bangladesh under-19 cricketers are due to arrive today for the five-match ODI series with Sri Lanka under-19.

The matches are scheduled to be played on 15, 18, 20, 23 and 25 October.

The Bangladesh team is coming fresh from a 3-2 ODI series win over Afghanistan at home whereas the Sri Lanka under-19 cricketers have not had any international exposure since the Under-19 World Cup ended in South Africa in February 2020. (ST)
