Sonal Dinusha led Sri Lanka ‘A’ fight back with a fine century
Sonal Dinusha scored a brilliant century to prop up Sri Lanka ‘A’s first innings to 272, but by the close of the second day of the first 4-day unofficial test Australia ‘A’ had replied strongly with 241-4, to trail by 31 runs with six wickets in hand at the Marrara Oval in Darwin yesterday.

Australia ‘A’ skipper Jason Sangha sent the Sri Lankans in and saw Dinusha score a superb unbeaten century. Dinusha, who took three wickets on his Test debut against Bangladesh late last month, reached his eighth first-class century when he launched back-to-back fours off Campbell Kellaway just before the second new ball was taken.

He finished not out on 105 from 148 balls, with 10 fours and a six, helping salvage a Sri Lanka ‘A’ innings that had looked set for collapse at 89-5, and where the next top score was No.3 Nuwanidu Fernando’s 34. Henry Thornton took a superb return catch and finished with 2-31 from 14 overs while Liam Scott claimed 2-27 in taking the first and last wickets of the day as Sri Lanka were all out for 272.

Australia ‘A’ in reply lost their first four wickets for 127 of which opener Jake Weatherald contributed 54 off 98 balls (6 fours, 1 six). Australia ‘A’s recovery was led by Nathan Sweeney and Liam Scott who have so far added 114 for the fifth wicket. Sweeney finished the day six runs short of a century having faced 219 balls and hit 6 fours, while Scott remained unbeaten on 52 (117 balls, 4 fours).

Dinusha followed his century by capturing two wickets for 44 with his left-arm spin.
