The eighth Esports Barrier Break Cup was held on 19 November with the participation of a Sri Lankan team for the second consecutive tournament.

Realising the power of Esports in changing the lives of people with disabilities towards positivity, Sonasu Ltd. and NPO e-sports Barrier Break Cup Project Japan have been organising a Esports Barrier Break Cup League for people with disabilities since 2020.

With the sponsorship of Moose Clothing Company and Lassana.com, a team consisting of three differently abled Sri Lankan players participated in the 8th Esports Barrier Break Cup tournament, competing with international teams from Japan, Indonesia, and South Korea. The Sri Lankan Team included Yoshitha Prabath, Thilina De Silva and Dhananjaya Sathish. The team was able to secure one round out of the three rounds competing with international players.

The Barrier Break Cup aims to promote the social advancement of people with disabilities through Esports. It is a welfare and Esports event that is spreading in Japan with the support of Nagoya City and Aichi Prefecture.

A differently able person is capable of doing so much more than society expects them to be. Our society is mostly unaware of the different types of sports and games the differently abled community could take part in. It’s a necessity to create as much awareness as possible. Not only it is very supportive to the players themselves to come out from their comfort zone but also increases their level of confidence. Similarly, through Esports differently abled communities can have an opportunity to prove their capacity and confidence in society.

In bringing this vision to life, Moose Clothing Company played a huge role with similar interests in empowering youth through sports and many other social activities. With its thought process, which aligns with one belief to create clothing that’s loved by all, it encourages youth to embrace and celebrate their unique personalities. Established in 2018, Moose Clothing Company is a subsidiary of Brandix Lanka Ltd., a leading manufacturer and exporter of apparel in Sri Lanka.

Alongside the future plan of building a platform for the skill development of differently abled individuals, challenging the perception of gamers, and creating a global, safe Esports community by attracting people who want to grow and take pride in our community, Esports Barrier Break Cup league seeks the support of local companies to work together in this cause.

Sonasu Sri Lanka, together with the Sri Lankan differently abled youth, are looking forward to participating and winning the 9th Esports Barrier Break Cup tournament which will be held in January 2022.
