The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club once again showed its rich golfing tradition, hosting three prestigious tournaments: Captains Cup, Presidents Prize and A.R. Aitken Trophy last weekend on its iconic Hill Country course.
All three events were sponsored by LYNEAR Wealth Management.
The weekend teed off with the Captains Cup with Dr. Nayana Dehigama produced a composed display to claim the coveted title. Carding a nett 70 with a gross 86, his precision iron play and reliable putting made the difference on a challenging layout.
Jayalath Perera, who returned a nett 72 and gross 88, finished runner-up after a strong back nine. Youngster, Ayaan Gunasekera won the Longest Drive, while consistent, Tharindu Wickremasinghe took the Nearest to the PIN award.
The following day, attention shifted to the Presidents Prize where local golfer, Derrik Ponnambalam delighted the home crowd. His steady round of nett 75 and gross 83 sealed victory in fine style.
Srimal Abeykoon finished a close second with a nett 76 and gross 94, also securing the Nearest to the PIN award. Thushara Rupasinghe powered his way to the Longest Drive award.
Adding depth to the weekend’s competition was the much looked forward A.R. Aitken Trophy contested across both events saw former Anandian and Planter Tharindu Wickremasinghe showing consistency and strength over two days, returning rounds of 73 and 82 for a combined nett 155 to lift the trophy.
