  • First 4-day game at Antigua

Wicket-keeper/batsman Sohan de Livera’s magnificent rescue century of 130 supported by left-arm fast-medium bowler Dulaj Samuditha’s match bag of eight wickets saw Sri Lanka Emerging commence their tour of the Caribbean on a winning note when they beat West Indies Academy by 75 runs in the first of two 4-day matches played at Coolidge Cricket ground, Antigua.

De Livera came to Sri Lanka’s rescue with a spirited knock of 130 off 110 balls (15 fours, 2 sixes) when Emerging team were down in the dumps at 89-5. They finally totalled 292 thanks largely to a 100-run stand between De Livera and Janishka Perera (38). The damage to the Emerging team’s first innings was done by local boy 22-year-old right-arm fast bowler Kelvin Pitman who ended up with career best figures of 7/28 off 13 overs.

West Indies Academy were also not comfortable with pace as they were dismissed for 214 with Samuditha picking up his maiden five-fer with 5/57 off 10 overs. Ashian Daniel with his off-breaks gave good support with 3/45.

With a useful first innings lead of 78, the Emerging team stretched it to 297 when they were all out for 219 in their second innings. The Emerging team started off well with an opening stand of 105 between Ravindu Rasantha (65 off 98 balls, 8 fours, 1 six) and Shevon Daniel (50 off 53 balls, 8 fours, 1 six). The rest of the batting failed to capitalise on that start and fell prey to the left-arm seam of Nathan Edwards (6/23) and the left-arm spin of Joshua Edwards (3/41).

Left with a target of 298 to chase West Indies’ Academy folded up for 222, their batting being dismantled by Samuditha (3/46) and spinners Dilum Sudeera (4/51) and Daniel (3/55). Only opener Ackeem Auguste resisted with 82 off 95 balls (7 fours, 5 sixes).

The second 4-day game begins on 14 June at the same venue.
