With the current bad weather not showing any signs of relenting doubts persist on how many of the six Major Clubs T20 matches down for decision today will be played to a finish.
The completion of these matches is important to Sri Lanka’s build up for next year’s T20 World Cup where certain loop holes in their batting needs to be plugged with players identified for the roles being given specialised positions to bat whilst representing their clubs. But with the exception of the opening weekend, where all the matches were played to a finish without any reduction of overs, the matches that have followed even after the nine-day break for rain, have taken place under reduced overs with some of them ending up without a ball bowled.
As a result, what we have witnessed so far are low scores with the ball dominating over the bat and the batsmen struggling to hit the ball out of the square with the exception of a few, as wickets for most part have been under cover.
There is quite an interesting line-up of the matches being played today notably from Group B where Colts play Bloomfield in a top of the table clash at the CCC grounds. At the same venue third and fourth placed teams BRC and Tamil Union are also due to play.
In Group A, table leaders Moors SC have a good chance of consolidating their position when they take on wooden spoonist Ace Capital CC at the NCC grounds. Ace Capital CC are without a win after two games.
With second placed Panadura SC having a free day, NCC who are currently lying third have a good opportunity of moving up when they play CCC at the P Sara Oval.
Nugegoda SWC v Chilaw Marians CC at P Sara Oval and Kurunegala YCC v Badureliya CC at the NCC grounds are the other matches commencing today.
