Crunch time in Dialog Schools Rugby Bowl segment

The Dialog Schools Rugby League Under-19 Bowl segment heats up this week with three crucial clashes that could determine who survives the drop for next season.

All three fixtures carry significant weight, especially for teams still searching for their maiden victory.

Dharmaraja College will be desperate to get off the mark when they take on Thurstan College on 25 July at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium. Rajans, playing in home conditions are yet to register a win this season and will view this as a golden opportunity. Thurstan, though inconsistent, have shown flashes of promise and will not be easy pushovers. For Dharmaraja, it’s now or never if they are to avoid relegation. Meanwhile Thurstan have registered one win in the league so far.

Referee will be Nipuna Amarathunge.

On the following day, 26 July the same venue will host another decisive fixture when St. Anthony’s College, buoyed by back-to-back wins, square off against Vidyartha College. Vidyartha, once considered one of the toughest outfits in the segment, have had a torrid season. Despite a promising start with a 24-all draw against St. Joseph’s, injuries and a reduced squad of just 30 players have heavily hampered their campaign. They now find themselves in real danger of demotion, and facing an in-form Antonian outfit only adds to the challenge. Antonians are leading the Bowl segment with two wins so far.

Referee will be Charani Liyanage.

In Ratmalana, Science College and Mahanama College will meet in what is expected to be a tightly contested affair. Science College, known for their structured play, hold a slight edge, but Mahanama have shown grit throughout the season. This encounter could go down to the wire, with both teams looking to end their campaign on a high.

Referee will be Tharindu Perera.

With relegation looming large, every point and every tackle will matter as these Bowl segment clashes unfold in the final stretch of the league. The last two teams at the end of the Bowl segment will be demoted to lower division for the 2026 rugby season.
