In a Court ruling yesterday (28 July), the interim relief previously granted in favour of Western Province officials aimed at halting the Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) reform process was lifted by Justice Sandun Vithana.

The decision followed compelling objections raised by the Attorney General’s Department, led by Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena, PC, and assisted by Senior State Counsel Avindra de Silva, State Counsel Pulina Jayasuriya, State Counsel Tushara Warapitiya, and State Counsel Senal Senewiratne.

The Working Task Force (WTF) was appointed by the Youth Affairs and Sports Minister to implement a new constitution approved by World Rugby and endorsed by all major stakeholders in Sri Lankan rugby.

In light of the Court’s ruling, the Special General Meeting (SGM) took place yesterday at the Duncan White Auditorium, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place in accordance with the provisions.
